The reality star, 31, was taken into custody on March 18 after being accused of sexually abusing a 9-year-old girl several times while on a family vacation in Florida’s Panama City Beach back in 2020.
He was charged in Florida with lewd and lascivious molestation of a victim less than 12 years old and lewd and lascivious behavior conducted by a person 18 years or older, per the Bay County Sheriff’s Office in Florida. He was brought to the Arkansas jail pending his extradition to Florida.
Two days after his arrest, Joseph and his wife, Kendra Duggar, 27, were each charged in Arkansas with four counts of endangering the welfare of a minor in the second degree and four counts of false imprisonment in the second degree, per a press release from the Tontitown Police Department.
A police source previously told PEOPLE that the charges are in no way related to Joseph’s charges in Florida. During a collect phone call from the detention center — obtained by PEOPLE — Joseph told Kendra that he is being held in solitary confinement.
Joseph called Kendra at 8:11 p.m. on March 20, just a few hours after she was released from the same facility after being charged with endangering a minor’s welfare and false imprisonment.
The couple connected after Kendra missed the first two calls placed by Joseph following his arrest, according to records from the Washington County Sheriff’s Office, obtained by PEOPLE.
They also did not see one another earlier that same day when Kendra was booked into custody.
During the call, Joseph, speaking in hushed tones, talked about his time behind bars.
“I’ve been spending a lot of time reading, uh, reading the Bible, they got me a Bible in here,” Joseph says on the call.
“I’m in solitary,” he adds, telling Kendra that he is spending “23 hours of the day” in “an 8-by-10 area” at the facility.
“Pretty small area, but I’ve been able to read a lot actually, and resting some, but I’m not sleeping great through the night,” Joseph says.

The couple then discuss getting Joseph to sign over the belongings he checked in upon being admitted to the facility so that Kendra could collect them.
Despite being booked and released from custody less than two hours before the call, Kendra reveals she already had a lawyer.
Kendra is not due back in court until April 29, while Joseph remains in custody awaiting extradition to Florida.
