Layla Taylor Is Back For SLOMW S4 – But Is She Still Part Of The Church?
It’s been a mere few months since we last saw our soda-drinking Utah mums, and yet The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives is nearly upon us.
The Disney+ series has confirmed the fourth season of the hit show will drop on the streaming platform on 12 March, with all our MomTok stars set to return – including Layla Taylor.
Since joining the show in season one as our newly-divorced single mum, Layla has won fans over with her honest approach – candidly navigating her shifting relationship with the church, as well as embracing her biracial background. So, who is Layla Taylor? Is she single? And is she still a member of the Mormon Church? Here’s everything you need to know about our MomTok member.
Who is Layla Taylor from The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives?
Layla Taylor is one of the women appearing on the reality show The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives. She joined in season one, and as of 2026, she’s also now an executive producer of the show.
How old is Layla Taylor and where is she from?
Born in 12 March, 2001, Layla will turn 25 years old in 2026. For our star sign fans, this also makes her an emotional and dreamy Pisces…
While she lives in Utah now, her hometown is Gilbert, Arizona. The show’s only biracial cast member, Layla was born to a white mother and a Black father. Her mother was from Arizona and her father was from Oklahoma, with the couple meeting through the military.
Layla’s race is something that has often surfaced in episodes of SLOMW – particularly as she began to delve into race and the LDS church. Black members of the church weren’t allowed to hold the priesthood until 1978, with Black members also barred from ‘sealing’ (a ceremony which the religion believes makes family relationships eternal.) Today, the church notes that all members of races are welcome.
As a biracial woman, Layla also spoke about struggling to find other people who look like her. This came up last season when the star revealed to hairstylist Jessi Ngatikaura that she was going to someone more experienced with her hair texture, after finding bald patches caused by her extensions.

Does Layla Taylor have children?
Layla shares two children with her ex-husband Clayton Wessell, who she met just a week after moving to Utah. The pair dated on and off for a year – a relationship that Layla described to Teen Vogue as being ’toxic’ – before she fell pregnant at 19. Two week later, the pair were engaged and moving in together.
Fast forward another month, and they were married. The pair are parents to two sons: Oliver ‘Ollie’ Clay, born 2021, and Maxwell Dean, born 2022.
In 2023, however, the couple split. Layla later revealed in an interview how she knew the marriage wasn’t a ‘good idea’ on her wedding day, saying ‘I was sick to my stomach the entire day, besides being pregnant. It was eerie, almost. Deep down, I just knew it wasn’t a good decision. But in that moment, I just felt like it was the only decision.’
Opening up about dating as a single parent, Layla told PEOPLE last year, ‘It’s a lot more challenging [because] I’m not just dating for myself. I am dating to potentially find somebody that would be a stepfather to my children, so it’s super important it’s the right guy.’
Is Layla Taylor currently single?
Yes, Layla is currently thought to be single following her recent breakup. She was most recently linked to a man not too far removed from the Mormon Wives drama: Mason McWhorter, the brother of Chase McWhorter (who was previously married to Miranda.)
The pair split earlier this year, with Layla confirming on 7 February that the couple had parted ways. ‘I feel like it’s kind of obvious,’ she said, addressing fan speculation. ‘I think everyone’s already noticed, and there’s pages already making videos about it, so I just wanted to hop on here to kind of set the record straight or something. Obviously, me and Mason are no longer together. It’s still super fresh.’
Adding that there was no ‘bad blood’, Layla added, ‘I genuinely want and wish nothing but the best for Mason. Things just weren’t working out.
I think we were just on two different paths right now, and he felt in order for him to grow, he had to be on his own. And I respect his decision, and I truly hope that he gets what he wants in life.’
Layla also shared how the breakup was particularly tricky given it was her first one following her divorce from Clayton.
Revealing that her sons were struggling with the split, she explained, ‘Mason was a really big part of me and the boys’ lives for the past almost year […] I just really thought that I was gonna get the family that I wanted so badly.’
Is Layla Taylor still part of the Mormon church?
Unlike some of our other Mormon wives, Layla wasn’t born into the religion. Rather, she chose it.
Layla joined the LDS church as a teenager, craving a more traditional family structure. She told Teen Vogue she grew up in a ‘messy home,’ with her parents divorcing when she was seven. Joining Mormonism at 16, she said, ‘I thought if I converted to the church, then hopefully in the future I would have that happy family dynamic.’
Layla initially kept her religion hidden from her parents, choosing to sneak out to go to church. ‘I just knew [my family] would have their feelings about it. At that point in my life, I just wanted to do it for myself and not have to hear what they were going to day.’
Now, Layla is more relaxed in her approach. She told The Independent last year that she has since left the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, saying, ‘I feel like when you are converting to a religion, you know the good parts, you obviously don’t know the otherwise negative parts.’
However, she ‘doesn’t regret’ joining the religion – noting that her ex-husband still takes their two sons to church on Sundays. ‘I’m trying to teach my kids that they have agency to choose, that if they want to be a part of the Mormon religion, they can do that.
But I’m also going to encourage them to research other religions and try out other things and just do what feels right for them. I would never want them to feel pressured in any religion, but also not discouraging what they think.’
When did Layla Taylor join MomTok?
Layla joined MomTok in 2022, when Taylor Frankie Paul sent her a direct message inviting her to hang out and make content.
Before that, she was already posting motherhood content on TikTok, but had only a few thousand followers. ‘It was just a way for moms to have fun and have an outlet outside of motherhood,’ she said, adding, ‘Because I feel like when you do become a mom, you lose yourself a little bit.’
