General Hospital’s Steve Burton Officially Out, Jason Morgan Exits!

General Hospital spoilers hint that Steve Burton has officially exited the role of Jason Morgan, ending his latest run on the ABC soap.

GH fans have been waiting anxiously to see how Jason would depart the show for weeks now, ever since Burton announced his short break from daytime drama via an Instagram post in February.

The actor did confirm he’d be returning to General Hospital sometime this summer.

Burton explained via his IG post and on his podcast that he was taking this hiatus to spend more time with his new wife, Michelle Lundstrom Burton, and their family.

The henchman has been involved in a nail-biting storyline for some days now, and it appears that during the close of the Wednesday, March 25 episode, Burton finally departed from storylines.

Jason has been planning a getaway for him and Britt Westbourne (Kelly Thiebaud) for weeks now.

The idea was to get Britt out from under the thumbs of Jenz Sidwell (Carlo Rota) and Ross Cullum (Andrew Hawkes), as they had coerced the woman to research Cesar Faison’s (Anders Hove) cold fusion final project.

Unfortunately, things went very wrong on the Friday, March 20 show.

Marco Rios (Adrian Anchondo) was able to score Britt’s Huntington’s disease meds from the safe at Wyndemere.

Still, Cullum caught on to Sidwell’s son’s betrayal and unalived the lawyer while he was working at the offices of Miller and Davis.

Cullum then followed Britt to the pier where she was supposed to meet Jason.

After demanding she give the vials back, Cullum got into a physical altercation with Britt, which resulted in her getting knocked out after her head hit a storage box.

Jason quickly entered the picture and began battling it out with Cullum, who was sporting a gun.

The gun got knocked out of Cullum’s hand, but the WSB director had an iron rod he was about to strike Jason with.

Thankfully, Rocco Falconeri (Finn Carr) had been lingering behind a wall during the entire thing, and when he had the opportunity, he grabbed the gun and shot Cullum in the back before the double agent could strike Jason in the head.

Everything happened very quickly after that: Nathan West (Ryan Paevey) arrived at the pier, and only a mere glance was needed, and he deduced that Jason was going to take the fall for Cullum’s shooting to avoid any repercussions that could land on Rocco’s plate for shooting a WSB spy.

Rocco was taken to his mom, Lulu Spencer’s (Alexa Havins Bruening) home, and Jason was hauled to the PCPD by Dante Falconeri (Dominic Zamprogna), shortly after the fact.

After some grilling by Dante, Jack Brennan (Chris McKenna) and some other WSB agents arrived at the station, claiming they were extraditing Jason to an unknown location where he would await trial for Cullum’s shooting.

Brennan, along with Valentin Cassadine (James Patrick Stuart) while talking to Carly Spencer (Laura Wright) during another scene, mentioned that Jason would probably never be seen by his loved ones again.

But fans know better, as Burton will likely return sometime in July, so GH viewers shouldn’t worry too much about Jason’s fate.

Especially since Valentin agreed to help Carly prove Cullum’s double-agent status to help exonerate him.

Valentin may also get the assist from Britt and Josslyn Jacks (Eden McCoy).

Still, an emotional Jason left PC, via a WSB transport van, at the close of the Wednesday, March 25 episode, as Danny Morgan (Asher Antonyzyn) cried while his father drove away.

General Hospital spoilers note that things look hopeless for Jason now, but it’s only a matter of time (probably around three months) until he arrives back in Port Charles – so now fans can speculate on exactly how the character returns!
